Cybersecurity Pathway

The tuition-free Cybersecurity pathway includes curriculum in GRC (governance, risk, and compliance). The Cybersecurity Pathway prepares students for new careers with growth opportunities in the high-demand cybersecurity industry.

$21 — $38

*Salary dependent upon, employer, employer location, previous work experience, etc.

Example careers post-graduation: IT help desk/service desk technician, Tier 1 SOC monitoring analyst, compliance or audit support assistant, security awareness/training coordinator, and IT asset management coordinator.

Schedule:
  • Tuesdays 8:30am – 1pm

    In-person Instruction

  • Lecture 8:30 – 10:30am
  • Break 10:30 – 10:50am
  • Instructor Office Hours + WMCAT Case Management 10:50am – 12:50pm
  • Wednesdays 8:30am – 1pm

  • Leadership By Design 8:30 – 10:30am
  • Break 10:30 – 10:50am
  • Lab Instruction 10:50am – 12:50pm

Note: Additional learning modules will be required outside of group class times

Highlights

  • Equipment is provided
  • All students will have the opportunity to receive CompTIA Security+ certification. Students will also learn content related to the Certified in Cybersecurity (CC) exam, which they may pursue independently.
  • Curriculum includes: scenario-based labs that mirror real entry-level cybersecurity work and certification readiness embedded throughout the program.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Have a high school diploma or GED
  • Live in Kent County
  • Have no record of a felony
  • Be experiencing unemployment or underemployment*

*Working part-time, multiple part-time jobs, or in a job where potential and skills are not fully utilized.

CYBERSECURITY CURRICULUM

GRC (governance, risk, and compliance) gives you the opportunity to learn about the function that governs the cybersecurity industry. GRC analysts protect critical information, systems, and organizations from digital attacks. You will learn the foundations of GRC (ISO 27001 and 27002, implementing an ISMS risk, and applying security controls), science and technology (cloud security, artificial intelligence, machine learning, AI and auditing algorithms), design (design thinking, data visualization, user experience), gain exposure to compliance audit readiness and evidence collection best practices, and professional communication skills. Curriculum includes: scenario-based labs that mirror real entry-level cybersecurity work and certification readiness embedded throughout the program.
