Marcuis Winkfield is a natural leader. Throughout his career in customer service, he honed his business skills. When Marcuis’s employer was acquired and his position eliminated, he saw a crossroads, a time to reimagine his future.
He began looking for training opportunities in cybersecurity, an industry that promised stability — that’s when he found and enrolled in WMCAT’s Adult Career Training Program.
While gaining technical skills and connecting to professionals in the field, Marcuis found himself energized by his peers: lending advice from his experience and leaning on others for support, too.
He said, “I tell [my classmates] all the time, ‘I’m really proud of you.’ . . . to see your growth, it’s not an easy road, it’s challenging.”
Now, Marcuis continues leading others and advancing inclusive growth in the digital economy as program manager with WMCAT’s instructional partner, GRCIE (Governance, Risk, and Compliance for Intelligent Ecosystems). He supports the curriculum that connected him to his reimagined future and current students on their journey to thriving-wage careers.
“How does life look different? It’s brighter . . . And it feels good to be part of an organization that is sharing this knowledge and giving this real-world experience to the community.”
