The music production studio builds students comfort with writing lyrics, producing, mixing and beat making. Students use MIDI controllers, Logic Pro on MacBook, instruments, and professional sound equipment in our recording booth to craft their studio album.
teaching artist | Brandon Copeland
Brandon Copeland joined WMCAT as music tech + production teaching artist in 2016 and now serves as the Arts + Tech Program Coordinator as well as a teaching artist. He is an award-winning hip-hop/jazz saxophonist and engineer. He plays in the bands Les Créatif and The Extra Texture. He is the former director of The Death House, an underground music venue that specializes in punk, house, jazz, and hip-hop music. Brandon also co-founded and runs The Beat Suite, a showcase on hip-hop music production, and is creative director at Couture Tape Co-Operative, a media news source for the Grand Rapids music scene. MUSIC PRODUCTION STUDIOS
Music Production
Eligibility: 9-12 grade GRPS students
Learn how music goes from a bedroom demo to a professional recording in this hands-on digital music production studio. Using Logic Pro and other DAW tools, students will explore sound design, drum programming, sequencing, mixing, and recording techniques. Create beats, full songs, or band recordings while developing technical skills and a unique creative style. Students will complete the studio by producing an original 3-track EP, creating a digital press kit, and presenting their work at a live listening party showcase.
